Online giant, Amazon has been spotted!

Amazon has officially come out of the internet shadows and opened its first ever brick and mortar location on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Students at Purdue will be able to order textbooks, electronics, or anything else their hearts desire. Once the order arrives, an email or text message will be sent to the student notifying them that their package is ready.

So, why would a highly successful business like Amazon look to expand into uncharted territory?

The answer is simple…growth. Embracing an omni-channel presence enables Amazon to move one step closer to combining the ease of online shopping with the instant gratification that shopping in-store has to offer.

Amazon isn’t the only company making this move. E-tailer giants like Birchbox, Bonobos, Warby Parker, and Nasty Gal are expanding from the web and adding brick and mortar stores to their sales strategy as well.

So despite the challenges retailers face today, it’s clear that it’s noteither online or brick and mortar, it’s a combination that leads to customer loyalty and ultimately retail success.
