Live Data Image Search Restricted to Hierarchy -
New Configuration Setting

Release Date: Thursday, November 3, 2016

With the new Restrict Image Search Results by Hierarchy checkbox in the Feature folder on the Configuration Settings page, you can ensure that Live Data image searches and image collections follow the same hierarchical rules in Natural Insight as assignments.

In other words, if a manager or other NI user does not have access to an assignment due to hierarchy, he/she will equally not have access to the assignment's image(s) via Image Search or Image Collections if the Restrict Image Search Results by Hierarchy Configuration Setting is checked.

Only administrators and executives (i.e., users with the out-of-the-box Executive, Administrator or Client Super User Security group assigned) have visibility of all images in an account since these users exist outside of an account's hierarchical structure.

Why Use the Restrict Image Search Results by Hierarchy Feature

With the Restrict Image Search Results by Hierarchy feature, Image Search follows the hierarchical access protocol of other reports and views in NI, preventing managers from viewing images outside of their own teams.

Of particular relevance is when multiple 3rd parties work within a single Natural Insight account. With the Restrict Image Search Results by Hierarchy Configuration Setting, 3rd party managers who audit photo results from completed work are blocked access to images from other organizations and see images from only the assignments they manage. In this way, the potential for cannibalizing is restricted.

Another application of this feature occurs when your company serves 2 or more competing clients such as Coke and Pepsi. With this new feature, you can ensure Coca-cola managers get to see Coca-Cola assignment images while Pepsi managers see only Pepsi assignment images. Prevent unwanted cross-client visibility (and thus any possible cross-client contamination)!

Consult with your Natural Insight Account Manager to see if this Configuration Setting is right for your account.

1The Restrict Image Search Results by Hierarchy feature applies to Live Data not Snapshots.
